CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency) Policies
Also known as: Digital Fiat Policy, Central Bank Crypto, State-Backed Digital Currency
Regulatory and strategic frameworks that guide the design, issuance, and governance of central bank digital currencies.
CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency) policies refer to the regulatory, monetary, and technical frameworks developed by governments and central banks to guide the issuance and management of sovereign digital currencies. These policies address key considerations such as privacy, financial inclusion, anti-money laundering compliance, interoperability with traditional banking systems, and monetary control. CBDCs can be wholesale (for institutional use) or retail (for the public), and their designs vary globally—ranging from account-based to token-based models. Prominent pilots include China's digital yuan, the ECB's Digital Euro, and the Bahamas' Sand Dollar.
